International Day of Charity is an annual observance which is celebrated every year on 5th September by the United Nations on all around the world to promote the charitable efforts made to reduce poverty globally. The basic purpose of the International Day of Charity is to enhance awareness and gives a common platform for charity-related activities around the world for charitable, individuals, philanthropic and volunteer organizations for their motives on the local, national, and international level. History of International Day of Charity In 2011, the Hungarian Parliament and Government supported the International Day of Charity which was originated as a Hungarian civil society. In response to a proposal of Hungary, On 17 December 2012, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by agreement to appoint 5 September as the International Day of Charity. September 5 date was chosen because this is the death anniversary of the Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Noble Prize in 1979 and to give a tribute to her work and diligence of charitable causes. Hence, the International Day of Charity was first celebrated in 2013. How People celebrated this day? On the International Day of Charity, many events and activities are held around the world to promote Charity. This day is also celebrated for helping to save people’s lives, protecting children from disease, fighting with the disease, and giving hope to many other people. Media also promoted this day by the news, radio, TV, and social networks. Every year on 5th of September, the United Nations invites all Member States, non-governmental organizations, international and regional organizations, and individuals to remember the International Day of Charity by doing charitable acts in their particular communities to enhance public awareness of this event.
