Background:January 27, 1945, will always be remembered as a tragedy and terrifying event in human history that occurred during World War II in the shape of deliberate killing of around 6 million Jewish people. Among those who were killed by the Nazi and its collaborators, there was a majority of Slavs, Poles and Romanian people. The largest Nazi concentration and death camp, known as Auschwitz-Birkenau located in Poland while operated by Nazi, Germany was liberated by the Red Army on January 27, 1945. Italy and United Kingdom observe International Day of Commemoration as a national event, every year. It was previously observed in different countries before the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on January 24, 2005, to observe this tragedy as an International Day of Commemoration on January 27. After the adoption of this resolution by the assembly, it was first observed on January 27, 2006. The Jewish groups of Germany, Israel, and various other parts observe this International Day of Commemoration as mourning in the memory of those victims who were killed. It included disable, homosexuals and religious opponents in a huge number as well. Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme:United Nations holds different events in the memory of terribly killed Jews during the World War II by the Nazi. One of them was named as “Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme”. It symbolizes the true spirit of sympathy with the ones who lost their lives in this tragic-ever event in the human history that resulted in killing millions of people. Its symbol is a combination of four elements. The text “Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme” and United Nation symbol are designed in white color with a black background. The symbol includes a barbed wire and two white roses. During the World War II, Jews lost their freedom, suffered a great amount of pain in the concentration camps which is represented in the shape of this barbed wire. On the other hand, peace, remembrance, prevention of genocide and a sense of freedom is depicted by the two white roses in this symbol. Jews remember this event as a black day in their lives since 1945.

The prominent leaders and speakers for various countries hold seminars to speak about the Holocaust. The survivors from Holocaust lay stress on the terrifying killing around them as a Black day for the community. They share the moments of the 1940’s and how it affected the continent. The experience shared by the survivors of the Holocaust clearly shows the world must not forget this day as a tragedy and sympathy to the descendants of the ones who lost their lives. Moreover, there is a lesson to learn for the generations to come. Preventing genocide must be the priority of all the Jews. A special attention is paid to the observance of this day and lessons are taught in the schools related to its history. United Nations plays its role quite significantly in organizing various events to highlight and remember the tragedy. On this occasion, different concerts, educational programs, and art exhibitions are held accompanied by the survivors or their descendants. International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust is marked by all Jewish communities and observed around the globe.
